The most important thing to remember is to always check everything against a known good set of data. Check your scan data, check your output factors, check your validation data. Use a third-party check such as IROC as well. Even the best of us makes mistakes and the best way to find errors is to compare, compare, compare.
Use Equipment that Works for You
Many detectors, water tanks will do a good job of collecting small field dosimetry data. The most important thing is not to use the "perfect" detector or water tank but rather to use one that you are comfortable with and know the limitations of.
