The Luxel+ Radiation Badge for Dental Offices
The LANDAUER Luxel+ Radiation Badge is our most popular dosimeter for dental offices. While dental workers such as dentists, hygienists, and assistants may be exposed to lower levels of radiation in comparison to other healthcare professions, dental radiation safety is just as important for the health and safety of workers. The Luxel+ Radiation Badge’s ability to accurately detect lower radiation levels (down to 1 mrem) makes it ideal for dental employees who work with lower-emitting dental radiographic machines such as X-ray machines and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).
These dental badges are made to be seamlessly integrated into the daily routine of employees within medical offices. The Luxel+ is small and easy to wear. The dosimeter is designed to withstand accidents, whether it’s mistakenly put into a laundry machine or left in a hot environment such as a car.
Managing a dental dosimetry program isn’t difficult with the Luxel+. It is designed for ease of use whether operating a small, locally owned dental office or numerous offices across several cities or states. The LANDAUER secure online portal makes it easy to manage people in the program, dosimeters, locations, administrators, reporting, and payments.
Wearing Radiation Badges in Dental Offices
Numerous factors determine who should wear radiation badges in dental offices. While dentists and hygienists are often the main employees working closely with radiation-emitting equipment, dental assistants and even office staff could need radiation badges.
Because there are fewer regulations in comparison to some other industries, dental workers sometimes opt not to wear radiation badges at all. However, these dosimeters are important for the safety and health of staff even in low-exposure settings.
In most states, radiation badges for dental offices are required up to one year after installing new equipment. After that, dosimeters are necessary for additional circumstances including, but not limited to:
- If the dental office has a Declared Pregnant Worker who requires a dosimeter
- The office gets new radiation-emitting equipment
- The office has a portable X-ray machine
