A history of innovation in radiation safety

Since its inception in 1954, LANDAUER has been providing state-of-the-art technology and unparalleled customer service within the radiation safety industry. Our goal is to better understand and document information related to occupational, environmental and healthcare-related exposure to ionizing radiation. The quest began with an intuitive awareness regarding the inherent hazards of the nascent nuclear medicine and nuclear energy industries.

Over the years, LANDAUER's groundbreaking contributions to the field of radiation safety have grown in scope and sophistication, developing new detection and monitoring technologies that continue to set industry standards. This history of innovation includes:
  • Automatic film readers
  • Hot gas and laser heated thermoluminescent (TLD) readers
  • CR-39 plastic detectors
  • Mammography TLD dosimeters
  • Optically stimulated luminescent (OSL) dosimeters

LANDAUER's innovations in radiation safety continue to shape the industry. We have recently reinforced our expansive health physics team through the strategic acquisition of Global Physics Solutions, a firm dedicated to providing healthcare organizations analytical support through experienced medical physicists.

LANDAUER is committed to the study of dosimetry, underscoring our dedication to advancing knowledge through investment in education, scholarships and scientific publications. With this focus top of mind, LANDAUER works closely with both customers and government entities to develop best practices in risk mitigation, and guide the development of occupational and public health and safety regulations. Our historical practice of dosimeter archiving has resulted in the only existing national registry of radiation exposure data.
